At the Washington University Stroke Center, we have a diverse team of physicians specializing in both adult and pediatric stroke. Fast and accurate diagnosis of a stroke is critical and can allow us to employ focused treatments that aim to preserve brain function and even help prevent death. As a certified Comprehensive Stroke Center, Barnes-Jewish Hospital stroke patients are treated faster than at most emergency departments around the nation, and their recoveries are more successful.
Our stroke center physicians are part of a large, collaborative team that treats not just stroke but numerous types of cerebrovascular disorders. We work closely with colleagues in Emergency Medicine, Radiology, Interventional Neuroradiology, Neurosurgery, and Neuro-rehabilitation. The result is a unique ability to participate in a patient’s care starting at the initial diagnosis of stroke through their hospitalization and ultimately with long-term follow-up in our Comprehensive Outpatient Stroke Clinic.
